Drastic Soul Searching

"One never knows the steps it takes to live a spiritual existence until a life changing event happens; that one event cleanses ones soul to search your purpose." /David Stair, manager of Auralis/

That is said by a man that lived through something that I would not like to go through myself. I know the story about the guy and I was wondering – why do we need such events to happen in our lives to change the perspective of our lives? Why do we take the life for granted? Why do we waste our life, our precious time on Earth doing useless things, meeting useless people (well, nobody is 100 % useless), eating junk, living unhealthy life etc.

Why on Earth do we need the "wake-up call"? And when we do, how long will it influence our lives before we get comfortable again and believe it will never happen again and that I will have a long joyous life?

I'm taking my life quite easily. I know that I will go to Heaven when I die and I have no problems of facing death in that way. My fear is more about being ill, being paralyzed, being that sick that it will not let me do anything "normal" and that I will waste other people's time while taking care of me.

What does it mean to live a spiritual existence in the first place? Knowing that I have a spirit that didn't die and survived the tragic? And how much exactly do we change it? Eat healthy? Cherish friends? Love thy family? Go to church perhaps?

I think the best result the experience can cause is to make one think what happens when I actually die? Is there an afterlife? Is somebody controlling my life? Is it my fault that this happened? Who do I give my thanks for the survival? Why don't I give thanks to God for all He's done?
It is so often that we blame God for all the bad in our lives even though it is not His fault. But when He does something good, we forget to thank Him.

Have you ever thought about what drastic thing it must be to wake you up? To make you think about your existence, about your soul?

I'm starting to think about it more and more. Since I see these people having these hard times and they don't really turn out the way I would've think they will. But hey, it's just me…

God bless you in your soul search and in your existence questions. :D
